Summary of Duties:

The Field Service Engineer provides a field based revenue generating resource for the installation, maintenance, refurbishment and service support for SS8’s portfolio of Cyber Forensics products.

Duties/Responsibilities of Position:

  • Responsible for field installation & support of the SS8 Cyber Forensics products in carrier networks
  • Assist customers with upgrades of hardware and software
  • Help customers with equipment configuration
  • Assistance in scripting automation
  • Provide training on product operation, one-on-one or in small groups
  • Provide remote support to customer base
  • SIGTRAN (Signaling Transport)
  • Lawful Intercept Products and Protocols
  • Enterprise Data Collection and Management tools
  • Will be required to participate on customer technical assistance troubleshooting conference calls
  • Will be required to participate in an on-call rotation with other team members in order to provide 24x7 support to our customer base
  • Ability to test, troubleshoot, isolate, and at times provide additional information to Engineering to resolve customer product issues
  • Self-manage multiple product case load
  • Document and provide knowledge transfer information across multiple groups within and out of SS8

Position Specific Competencies/Skills Required:

  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP at packet level.
  • CCNA is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge in UNIX (Solaris) and Linux.
  • Experience in Shell script, Python, Perl, Tcl/Tk/Expect 
  • Knowledge of RADIUS, DHCP, POP3, SMTP, and IMAP.
  • Knowledge of networking essentials is required. (LAN/WAN, VPN, SSL, Firewalls, Switch/Router).
  • Experience of VoIP, SIP, IMS, LTE and 5G is a plus.
  • Must have strong network troubleshooting skills at packet level, familiar with packet capture tools
  • Excellent customer service, verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Experience with carrier grade voice/data products in TDM is a plus

Experience/Education Required/Desired:


  • Technical understanding of network and IT security
  • Experience of Tier 1 Customer Service Provider networks and associated Live business critical systems
  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP at packet level. Familiar with packet capture tools i.e. Wireshark
  • Strong ability to analyze log files and then follow the troubleshooting path to resolve faults, network communication flows
  • Strong knowledge of UNIX/Linux System and Service Administration
  • Knowledge of networking and device setup and configuration (LAN/WAN, VPN, SSL, Firewalls, Switch/Router, Virtual Machine, Openstack)
  • Excellent customer service
  • Strong English oral and written communication skills
  • Must be able to travel
  • Must be able to lift 35 pounds


  • Broad knowledge of regulatory compliance
  • Experience in Shell script, Python, Perl, Tcl/Tk/Expect 
  • Experience of VoIP, SIP and IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS)
  • Experience with mobile and fixed line carrier grade voice/data products
  • Experience with multiple encryption protocols (TLS/SSL, IPSEC)
  • BA/BS in technology related field desired
  • 5+ years experience in high tech, preferably in telecom
